The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has announced a grant opportunity under its Accelerating Youth-Led Action in Addressing Climate Mobility in Africa programme. This initiative aims to strengthen the capacities of youth-led civil society organisations (CSOs) across Africa, enabling them to design, implement, and monitor local climate mobility interventions while communicating their impact. Supported by Denmark’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the programme is part of the Climate Change and Migration Data Programme (CCMD).
IOM seeks to empower youth-led CSOs by providing financial grants to selected projects addressing environmental degradation, disasters, and climate change. The programme supports initiatives that offer solutions for people to stay, to move, or already on the move due to climate-related challenges, aligning with regional and continental frameworks such as the Kampala Ministerial Declaration on Migration, Environment, and Climate Change (KDMECC).
Eligible applicants must be registered youth-led CSOs operating in Africa, led by individuals under 35, with 2–5 years of relevant project experience, and at least one member having completed IOM’s Capacity Building Initiative in 2025. Proposed projects must clearly address climate mobility and demonstrate measurable local impact.
Grants, up to USD 15,000, will support capacity building, project implementation, and inclusive, sustainable solutions. Applicants must submit required documentation, including registration, project proposals, financial reports, and proof of training, via email to ccmd-queries@iom.int. The deadline is January 19, 2026, at 6 PM EAT.
Selected CSOs will sign formal agreements outlining deliverables, reporting, and visibility requirements. IOM plans to award six grants across North, West & Central, and East, Horn & Southern Africa, fostering youth-driven, community-led solutions at the intersection of climate change and human mobility.
