The global AI divide is widening rather than shrinking. By June 2025, high-income countries controlled 77% of the world’s colocation data center capacity, while low-income countries accounted for less than 0.1%. Microsoft also reported that generative AI adoption in the Global North is now nearly twice that of the Global South, with the gap continuing to expand through 2025.
$150,000 Artificial Intelligence Funding Opportunity
The MIT Solve AI for Humanity Prize will award up to $150,000 in unrestricted funding to one team developing a solution powered by data science, artificial intelligence, or machine learning to drive a more equitable and sustainable future. Eligible focus areas include health, climate, education, economic opportunity, and Indigenous community priorities.
Unlike many AI grants that prioritize early-stage ideas or prototypes, this prize is focused on ventures already demonstrating real-world impact. Selected teams should have:
- A tech-driven social impact venture using AI, ML, or data science
- A solution already in the market with active users and measurable traction
MIT Solve is specifically seeking scalable solutions with clear unit economics, customer acquisition potential, and proven outcomes. Pilot-stage projects are unlikely to qualify.
