Redefining Success and Achievement

Success or achievement is not always what we usually think of. Most people associate achievement with material things they have amassed within a year or so. But this could be wrong.

If we tie our success to how much we have acquired over time, or by how many degrees we have earned from colleges, then it would mean those who haven’t stepped into a college or campus have achieved nothing — which cannot be true.

Let’s be honest, achievement is much different from what we often tie it to, though school and wealth form part of it to some extent.

The Simple Wins That Matter

Psychologists will tell you that maintaining mental clarity and peace of mind is itself an achievement. Being able to accomplish a task — even paying off a stubborn bill or loan — is another milestone worth celebrating.

Moreover, just affording to live your life, whether average or not, is still a worthy achievement. What really matters is having peace of mind.

Furthermore, if you have been dreaming of launching something — or seeing yourself innovate in the tech space through a blog or social media platform like the one you are reading now — all these, even if they are not currently making you money, mean you have achieved a step forward in your life. Never see wealth as the only measure of achievement. The small things you do every day to improve yourself or the lives of others matter too.

Avoid the Trap of Comparison

Treat every step of your journey and life as a great achievement. The greatest mistake we make is comparing ourselves to others. You will never be someone else. What they achieved or failed to achieve is not what you needed to accomplish. They did what they did because their ideas, space, resources, and environment allowed or enabled them to go that far.

This simply means you won’t become either of them. Work within your means to ensure you fit well where you are. Be comfortable and proud of yourself, with the little you have or are striving to achieve.

Keep Moving, No Matter What

The greatest mistake you can make in this struggle is to stop trying. Every day, wake up, pray, and move to your desk or hustle. There will always be something good or bad to learn — and either way, learning itself is an achievement.

Remember, progress doesn’t have to be loud. Sometimes your quiet efforts are building the foundation for your biggest breakthroughs. Keep watering your dreams even when no one notices; they will bloom in their season.

Embrace Your Timing

Said and done, age should not scare you. God made everyone with their achievement day in His mind. I have seen my friends — some make it at 25, while others make it at 45. Whichever the way, they both made it. So do not frown upon delays; some delays are healthy in life.

A delay is not a missed opportunity. It could be God’s way of preparing you for something better. Better late than never.
