Applications Open for Fully Funded Yale Young African Scholars Scholarship 2026

Applications are now open for the Yale Young African Scholars (YYAS) Scholarship 2026, a highly competitive, fully funded opportunity for outstanding African students aspiring to pursue undergraduate studies in the United States. The application deadline is January 21, 2026.

Offered by Yale University, the YYAS program is designed to nurture academically talented young Africans by exposing them early to world-class universities, liberal arts education, leadership training, and global academic pathways. The program targets students with strong academic ability, leadership potential, and a commitment to positively impacting their communities.

A unique feature of YYAS is that all admitted students are automatically considered for the Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) program, eliminating the need for a separate application. Eligibility for YYGS is assessed using information provided in the YYAS application, making it a dual opportunity for African students seeking fully funded summer programs at Yale.

The scholarship is open to African citizens, permanent residents, and refugees living in Africa who are currently schooling on the continent. Applicants must be between 14 and 18 years old by July 16, 2026, be current Grade 11 students (or equivalent), and demonstrate proficiency in English. Graduation timelines vary depending on whether the applicant studies in the Northern or Southern Hemisphere.

Successful applicants must submit a completed application form, an official school transcript, and one teacher recommendation. Ideal candidates should demonstrate academic excellence, leadership skills, strong communication abilities, maturity, and an interest in intellectual and societal issues affecting Africa.
