The SAB Foundation has officially opened applications for its flagship Social Innovation Awards programme, aimed at supporting entrepreneurs and social enterprises developing solutions to systemic challenges faced by women, youth, rural communities, and persons with disabilities.
The programme targets innovators with prototypes or early-stage ventures that address pressing social issues across key sectors, including health, housing, rural livelihoods, energy, water and sanitation, and financial inclusion. Applicants are expected to demonstrate that their products, services, or business models respond directly to real challenges within underserved communities and are scalable while commercially sustainable.
Selected innovators receive more than just funding. The programme offers a structured ecosystem with grant support, tailored mentorship, technical advisory services, business development assistance, and strategic guidance for scaling, equipping entrepreneurs with the operational and strategic capabilities required for long-term success.
Since 2015, the Social Innovation Awards have invested R88.9 million, supported 203 innovators, generated a 150% increase in jobs, and boosted venture turnover by 204%. Collectively, funded ventures employ over 4,000 people and support more than 16,000 livelihoods, demonstrating the programme’s measurable national impact.
Applications for the 2026 Awards are open from 10 February to 16 March (midday). The awards are designed for early-stage entrepreneurs, social enterprises with validated prototypes, and founders operating in underserved or rural markets. Successful applicants typically demonstrate clear understanding of a social problem, viable solutions, measurable impact, and strong leadership commitment.
The SAB Foundation continues to champion inclusive entrepreneurship, providing innovators with the resources and recognition needed to transform ideas into job-creating, community-driven enterprises. Prospective applicants are encouraged to review the official guidance documents and submit their applications before the deadline. Apply
