An exciting opportunity is available for a passionate, experienced, and strategic professional to serve as our Violence Against Women (VAW) Prevention Lead. This role is ideal for someone who is committed to transforming harmful gender norms, strengthening evidence-based prevention strategies, and championing social justice.
The successful candidate will guide the strategic direction of our VAW prevention work, enhance learning and documentation efforts, and foster strong collaborations with partners locally, regionally, and globally.
Position Summary
Working closely with the Co-Director, the VAW Prevention Lead will provide visionary leadership to the organization’s prevention programming while contributing to broader institutional strategy. The role involves strengthening program design and execution, driving innovation, managing resources responsibly, and cultivating feminist-centered team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Direction and Leadership
- Provide overall strategic guidance for VAW prevention programming in alignment with the organization’s mission and long-term vision.
- Lead structured reviews and reflection processes to refine and strengthen prevention strategies.
- Track emerging global evidence, trends, and debates in violence prevention and gender justice.
- Identify and develop new initiatives, partnerships, and opportunities to deepen impact.
- Promote cohesion across prevention programming, advocacy initiatives, and network-building efforts.
- Uphold and model the organization’s feminist values and organizational culture.
- Program and Technical Oversight
- Ensure high-quality implementation of VAW prevention initiatives across all program areas.
- Guide the development of tools, frameworks, and approaches grounded in feminist principles and research evidence.
- Strengthen organizational learning systems and ensure lessons inform future programming.
- Lead or support the development of publications and knowledge products to amplify practice-based insights.
- Contribute to proposal development and fundraising efforts for prevention programming.
- Oversee risk identification and mitigation across the department.
- Take responsibility for comprehensive donor and annual reporting processes.
- Financial and Operational Management
- Develop annual departmental work plans and budgets and contribute to organization-wide planning processes.
- Monitor expenditures to ensure alignment with approved budgets and strategic priorities.
- Review budget performance reports and collaborate with finance teams to ensure accountability.
- Ensure responsible stewardship of donor funds and promote value for money.
- Comply with organizational policies, systems, and internal procedures.
- Contribute to internal planning forums, retreats, and staff development processes.
- Partnerships and Representation
- Build and sustain collaborative relationships with civil society partners, women’s rights organizations, academic institutions, and thought leaders.
- Strengthen engagement with donors in collaboration with senior leadership.
- Represent the organization in national, regional, and international forums.
- Facilitate reflective partnership engagements to enhance shared learning and growth.
- Promote a collaborative, accountable, and feminist working environment internally and externally.
- Team Leadership and Development
- Provide supervision, mentorship, and performance management support to the VAW Prevention team.
- Set annual performance objectives aligned with departmental and organizational goals.
- Encourage continuous professional development and foster a strong learning culture.
- Lead team appraisal processes and support staff growth pathways.
- Additional Duties
- Undertake any other relevant responsibilities as assigned.
Required Competencies
Knowledge and Expertise
- Strong grounding in women’s rights, feminist theory, and violence prevention frameworks.
- Deep understanding of evidence-based VAW prevention approaches.
- Experience in coalition-building and movement strengthening.
- Knowledge of organizational learning methodologies and knowledge management.
- Proven ability to manage complex programs and significant budgets.

Qualifications and Experience
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Social Work, Development Studies, Human Rights, or a related field (required).
- Master’s degree is an added advantage.
Experience:
- Minimum of 11 years’ experience in the NGO sector, including substantial work in violence prevention.
- At least 6 years in a senior program leadership role.
- Demonstrated record of strategic and technical leadership with measurable results.
