The Internet Society has announced the opening of applications for its Youth Ambassador Program 2026. This annual initiative identifies young people who are passionate about the future of the Internet and supports them with training, mentorship, and global exposure. The program runs for 12 months and selects 15 participants from different regions around the world.
The Youth Ambassador Program is designed to equip emerging leaders with the knowledge and tools needed to participate effectively in Internet governance discussions. It also provides opportunities to learn from experts, join global dialogues, and contribute to the development of an open, secure, and reliable Internet.
Program Benefits
Participants in the 2026 cohort will gain access to a wide range of learning and networking opportunities, including:
- A global peer community of young Internet leaders working to strengthen digital inclusion and online rights.

- Attendance at a major Internet governance event, selected based on the participant’s interests and location.

- Opportunities to raise awareness and contribute to discussions on Internet access, digital safety, and community empowerment.
Beyond these benefits, the program encourages collaboration among participants, helping young leaders exchange ideas and build long-term professional networks.
Who Is Eligible?
The program is open to applicants worldwide who have an interest in Internet governance and digital policy.
To apply, candidates must:
- Be between 18 and 30 years old at the time of application.
- Have strong English communication skills (reading, writing, and speaking).
- Be comfortable with public speaking and advocacy.
- Commit at least 4 hours per week during the 12-month program.
- Be available for weekly sessions held between 11:00 and 16:00 UTC.
- Be able to travel internationally with a valid passport.
- Not have previously participated in any of the following Internet Society programs:
- IGF Ambassador
- IGF Youth Ambassador
- Youth@IGF Fellow
- Youth Ambassador
Applicants with experience in community work, digital rights, Internet governance initiatives, or technology-driven projects are strongly encouraged to apply.
Selection Process
Selection takes place in two stages and is highly competitive:
- Online Application Review
A committee consisting of Internet Society staff, program alumni, and community leaders reviews the applications anonymously to ensure fairness. Candidates are assessed based on:
- Alignment with the Internet Society’s mission
- Experience supporting an open and secure Internet
- Community involvement and leadership potential
Shortlisted applicants proceed to the second phase.
- Online Internet Governance Course
Shortlisted candidates complete an online training course delivered in small groups with a tutor. After the course, the top 15 performers are selected as Youth Ambassadors for the 2026 cohort.
