About the Pulse Research Fellowship:
The Pulse Research Fellowship and Mentorship supports researchers worldwide to:
• Conduct data-driven analysis
• Develop innovative tools
• Explore critical Internet Society Pulse focus areas, including:
o Enabling Technologies
o Internet Shutdowns
o Internet Resilience
o Market Concentration
o Keeping Traffic Local
This program allows researchers to work remotely while advancing knowledge in Internet measurement and policy.
Who Can Apply?
The fellowship is open to researchers globally who are interested in using state-of-the-art Internet measurement techniques. While applicants can propose their own projects, suggested research areas include:
• Estimating the network and economic benefits of peering
• Measuring DNS resilience
• Quantifying local Internet traffic
• Real-time service blocking detection
• Studying the impact of power outages on Internet resilience
• Predicting Internet shutdowns
• Exploring Internet concentration and consolidation
• Researching Internet and climate change
• Conducting Internet policy mapping
• Creating data storytelling and visualization for open Internet datasets
Fellowship Details
• Duration: 6 months (two cohorts)
• Work Mode: Remote
• Time Commitment: Minimum 25 hours per week (mentors 8 hours per week)
• Stipend: Generous, based on experience and commitment
Applicants are evaluated based on:
1. Proposal relevance to Internet Society Pulse focus areas
2. Knowledge and experience in Internet measurements
3. Ability to commit the required hours per week
