From Form Two Dropout to KSh 11.5 Million Winner: Alice’s Remarkable Turnaround

At just 23, Alice Keino’s life had already taught her lessons that many people never experience at that age.

Born and raised in a small village in Kericho, Alice was the firstborn in a family of six children. Her parents were hardworking peasant farmers who struggled to put food on the table. Sending all six children to school was a dream that often seemed beyond their reach.

“My parents are struggling. I really felt for them because at their age, this is not easy. I really feel like we are punishing them. For how long?” she lamented in a local church service one day.

Alice was a bright and disciplined girl who loved school. Teachers often praised her determination, and she dreamed of one day pursuing a professional career especially in medicine. But circumstances forced her to make a painful decision.

While in Form Two, Alice dropped out of school to help her aging parents take care of the family. She spent her days helping on the farm, looking after her younger siblings and doing whatever she could to keep the family going. She had the spirit of supporting others.
