Role Overview: Human Rights Intern

CIVICUS is seeking a Human Rights Intern to support the organization’s advocacy initiatives and engagement with human rights stakeholders. The role involves assisting in advocacy implementation, providing member support, coordinating events, producing communications, and conducting research with a focus on civil and political rights.

Key Responsibilities

UN Advocacy & Member Support

  • Assist in engagement with the UN Human Rights Council and other human rights mechanisms.
  • Support the preparation of advocacy strategies, statements, and briefing notes.
  • Help members, partners, and human rights defenders during advocacy missions, including logistical arrangements.

Event Coordination & Communication

  • Assist with planning and coordinating events, ensuring smooth logistical execution.
  • Support the communications team in producing timely and effective materials.

Research & Administration

  • Conduct research on human rights and civic space issues, drafting briefs and summaries.
  • Support office administration, record-keeping, and file management.

Other Duties

  • Perform additional tasks as needed to support the scope of work.

Candidate Profile

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in International Relations, Law, Political Science, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 6 months’ experience in advocacy, policy, or international relations.

Skills & Experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
  • Proficient in MS Office and IT tools.
  • Strong understanding of global civil society, policy-making, and international relations.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and work in a team-oriented environment.
